Kevin J Kern, 53 of New York City woke up in peace with the angels on Wednesday, December 20. Kevin was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa to Bud and Mary Lou Kern and moved, at a young age, to Somers Point where he was raised. He was a graduate of Mainland Regional High School and attended Rutgers University and Kings College. His early employment with Braniff Airlines enabled him to enjoy his love of travel abroad. Kevin pursued various directions, most recently being employed by Gracious Home in Manhattan. Kevin thoroughly enjoyed his many years in the “City” and his music, which was evident in his vast collection of LPs and CDs. He was also an avid reader and loved to share the lighter side of headlines with whoever would listen. He cherished his ongoing youth and spending time on the beach, especially 7th Street.

Kevin is pre-deceased by his father, Lawrence E Kern, Jr. and leaves to mourn his passing, his loving mother, Mary Lou Kern of Linwood, his sisters, Patty (Michael, dec’d) McGrath of Northfield, Maureen Kern (Jay Phillips) of Somers Point, Eileen (Ken) Wallace of Linwood, Cindy Kern of Mays Landing and Kathleen Kern of Somers Point. He also leaves his very dear and special friends, Joe and Rita Cohen of New York. Forever young at heart, he had a special bond with all his nieces and nephews: Lauren (Kris) Clayton, Erica McGrath, Dennis McGrath, Mikey McGrath, Buddy Phillips, his godson, David Phillips, Bryan Phillips, Kristen Wallace, Brittany Wallace, Jack Wallace, Shannon Hein, Amy Lou Hein, Will DeCamp, Sara DeCamp, and his goddaughter, Kaleen Kern. His great-niece and nephew, Bernadette Clayton and Mikey McGrath, also survive him. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will miss him as well.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lawrence “Bud” Kern Memorial Fund, 121 W New York Ave, Somers Point, NJ 08244 or, in the spirit of the season, continue his tradition of caring for the children by contributing in his name to the less fortunate of them.

I love you all dearly,

Now don’t shed a tear.

I’m spending my Christmas

With Jesus this year.
